Admittedly, I didn't get into their previous "record," the massive Alchemy Index experiment that had the band release four element-themed EPs of music, so I came into Beggars without many expectations.
The more direct approach to songwriting paid off big time, as this record is their most confident and emotive to date. The album flows well, from the energetic opener of "All The World Is Mad" to the sober "Beggars." It's a departure from everything they've done and it works. Get it, if not for "Wood & Wire" alone. |

This year has been so awful for celebrity deaths. 2009 has really claimed a lot of souls, including Michael Jackson, Patrick Swayze, Farrah Fawcett, Brittany Murphy and countless others. Now, we’ve just learned that the grim reaper has claimed another one: Avenged Sevenfold’s 28-year-old drummer, James Owen Sullivan. Reportedly, the young drummer died of natural causes, according to Huntington Beach authorities. He was found dead in his home and the Coroner’s Office is investigating his untimely death. RIP. |
